HUNGRY NO MORE; THIRSTY NO MORE

John 6:35. The disciples asks Jesus, “Lord, always give us this bread.” But they were still thinking of ordinary bread, of what Jesus could give them. Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. The one who comes to Me will never hunger, and the one who believes in Me will never thirst”.

When you eat when you are very hungry and you eat, the meal delights you, even plain water satisfies when you are thirsty. In the same way, God says, Let My Word be your delight. Let Me satisfy you. Read the Word with intention to really LISTEN “God, what do You want to tell me?” The problem is that many times we are already too full of the world to be hungry for God.

This is where spiritual adultery comes in. We say we belong to Christ, but we still want to enjoy the world. We want to hold Jesus in one hand and our old life or worldly pleasures in the other. In John 13:36 Simon Peter asks, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus tells him, “Where I am going, you cannot follow Me now.” Peter thought Jesus was going towards a throne, but Jesus was going to the cross. Peter was not yet dead to self to go or stay on the cross. We too say, “Jesus, I will follow You,” but then struggle to let go of small things, even putting the phone away for an hour. Following Christ means learning to die to the world and to the things that keep pulling us away from Him.

There are so many voices around us saying, “Come.” Advertisements, sales and offers, food, movies, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, people, gossip, - everything is calling us as if that will satisfy our souls need. Do we go to a bank for health care? No we go to a Doctor in a hospital. If we know we need to go to a textile shop for clothes and a restaurant for food, why do we go to Instagram, movies, shopping or other people to feed our soul? Isaiah 55:3 says: “ Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live”

Isaiah 55:1–2 continues the same invitation echoes as John 6: “Come.”

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.”

God is offering what the soul truly needs. The bread, pointing to the Word of God; the wine speaks of the blood of Jesus; the milk of purity and sanctification. Come to Him, spend time in the Word, be in prayer, and let Him show you where to go, what to do and how to do it. This does not mean doing nothing and expecting provision to appear. Live out the purpose for which God has placed you where you are. You follow Him; the things you need will follow you.

Why spend your money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? We waste our money, time and energy on possessions that keep promising satisfaction but never delivers. We buy one thing and soon want another. That’s why there is an iPhone 15 and 16 and 17. The deeper problem is that the heart is not satisfied in Jesus.

“Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good.” Not what looks good to us, but what God says is good. Then the soul can truly “delight itself in rich food.”

Remember the Garden. Out of all the trees, the devil drew Eve’s attention to the one tree that would lead her into disobedience. That is still how distraction works. Once you decide, I am going to focus on God and live the purpose He has for me, many other voices will begin calling. Learn to say no. We spend so much time standing before a mirror trying to look like Katrina, Priyanka or Rihanna, but how often do we stand before the mirror of the Word of God and ask, Am I looking more like Christ?

What are our eyes fixed on? What are we feeding ourselves with? Put the phone away, take the Bible, sit quietly before God and ask, “What do You want to tell me?” Feed on Him until your heart learns that He is enough. Live from His direction, not this worlds deception. When the heart is satisfied in Him, the world loses its power to pull us in every direction, because your satisfaction is not in the thing you receive but in knowing that God is with you and has led you there.
